Pastoral Search Team...... purpose, timeline and nominations

Purpose of the Search Team:
A pastor search team is a group of church members elected or appointed to act on behalf of the church congregation to identify, interview and recommend the next senior pastor.  Their primary goal is to build a pastoral profile, screen candidates, and ultimately present a single, unifying recommendation to the church for a vote.

Vetting Process

  • Collect and evaluate resumes.
  • Review candidate's digital content
    • Sermons, podcasts, online presence
  • Conduct interviews
  • Check references from previous congregations
  • Listen to the candidate preach in-person
  • Detailed questioning
    • Assess theology and doctrinal stances
    • Conflict resolution
    • Vision
    • Leadership style
    • Compatibility

Projected Timeline

June 28 & July 5   -   Communicate the nomination process during the Sunday morning worship service.
July 12   -   After prayerful consideration, active Calvary church members will write in the nominees on their ballot.
July 15   -   Calvary's Transition Leadership Team (TLT) will review, cross reference with membership, age, ministry and pray over all nominees.
August 2   -   Target date to announce the Pastoral Search Team to the church in the morning worship service. 

Prayer  &  Scripture

A Pastoral Search Team is a significant responsibility and requires prayer, so spiritual maturity and discernment are more important than popularity.  Pray that God leads us to people who will seek God's will above our own preferences
A Prayer to Pray:    Lord, help us not to choose based on friendship, personality, or persuasion, but to recognize those You have already prepared for this task. Give our church unity, wisdom and peace as we seek the pastor You have chosen for us. May every member of our Leadership Team and of the Search Team be led by Your Spirit, committed to Your Word and devoted to Your glory. Amen

Group 118-29 years old
Group 230-39 years old
Group 340-49 years old
Group 450-65 years old
Group 566-99 years old

Nomination Process

Active church member will write in nominees on the ballot.  Calvary's Bylaws direct us to form a team of 5 members and 2 alternates.  These members will represent both age range and ministry area at Calvary.
1 Ballot per member.
1 Nominee per age group.
Nominations will be cast in-person during the July 12th Sunday Morning Service.
Volunteers serving on campus July 12th, but not in the Worship Center may cast their nominations at the end of service.
